1 lb Urea: A synthetic nitrogen compound that is used as a humectant when dyeing or painting with all classes of dyes, and in printing. This means urea will keep your dye fabric moist when you are working on it for a long time. Urea also increases the solubility of dyes when mixing dye powders and when making dye paint. Only a very small amount is needed. Some dyers recommend more, especially when painting with dyes; but we use only 1/4 - 1/2 tsp to 1/2 cup dye water.
